Como ya os contamos hace unos dÃas, esta semana estamos probando en Sobreviraje el Audi A7 2012. Más adelante haremos una prueba completa, pero como adelantaba por Twitter, es un coche que si bien no tiene ningún defecto importante, tampoco fascina por nada, y quizá, en un coche de su precio, es de esperar que no sea simplemente una máquina que nos lleve cómodamente desde el punto A al B.
No obstante, las cualidades o defectos de los coches siempre se valoran en relación a las de sus competidores. Es curioso que sea asÃ, porque no pasa en muchos productos industriales. Por poner un ejemplo, sin necesidad de comparar, todos podemos decir si una batidora cumple bien su función o no. Creo que podrÃamos decir que las expectativas de funcionalidad se ajustan mucho a la realidad.
El problema con los coches es que por un lado son un producto extraordinariamente complejo, que no cumple una sola función, como una batidora, o un equipo de música, y que además, pueden hacer varias cosas muy bien o muy mal, pero a la vez.
Es por esto que la comparación con otros productos semejantes es imprescindible. Digamos que uno no sabe si un coche es rápido, o cómodo, o espacioso, hasta que no prueba un diferente.
Para aquellos que nos dedicamos precisamente a eso, a comparar coches, nos espera una tarea que puede resultar realmente complicada, ya que en muchas ocasiones se hace simplemente recordando sensaciones, y eso evidentemente, nos lleva a equivocarnos, por muchas notas, fotografÃas y vÃdeos que hagamos para minimizar nuestra mala memoria.
Ayer, a diferencia de tantas veces, tuve la ocasión de probar dos posibles rivales, el Audi A7 que estamos probando, y un Jaguar XF, uno después de otro, en el mismo recorrido, y la verdad es que las sensaciones fueron realmente positivas. Sólo pasando por la misma rotonda, por el mismo carril de aceleración, por el mismo bache, puede uno expresar opiniones realmente concretas y afinadas.
Seguramente las conclusiones a las que hubiera llegado si no los hubiera probado uno inmediatamente después del otro puntarÃan en la misma dirección, pero no serÃan precisas. Probar coches de diferentes marcas de esta manera no siempre es posible, por no decir que casi nunca lo es, pero creo que a partir de ahora seré algo más consciente del margen de error en el que incurro al comparar dos coches haciendo uso de mi memoria.
