Las berlinas del segmento D premium tienen dueño desde hace ya mucho años, los fabricantes alemanes. Es este un segmento difÃcil de colonizar por su enorme competitividad, en el que la relación calidad/precio es terriblemente exigente.
Además, como sucede con los modelos de acceso de marcas premium, el margen comercial que se maneja es más ajustado que en el resto de modelos (los costes de fabricación de un modelo más caro son proporcionalmente menores que el incremento de precio. Que me perdonen aquellos que piensan que una derivada lo explica de manera más fácil, aunque tengan razón.)
Pues bien, Lexus hace ya 8 años lanzó al mercado el IS. No obtuvo al principio el japonés malos resultados de ventas, pero el problema es que desde entonces, los alemanes han renovado por completo sus modelos, mientras Lexus ha decidido invertir en otros segmentos más rentables a priori y en claro crecimiento: los SUV.
Hace un año llegó la renovación para las dos berlinas restantes de la marca, y por fin, estos dÃas se ha anunciado la puesta al dÃa del IS. La edad se le notaba mucho al japonés desde luego.
Para empezar su principal defecto, las más que justas plazas traseras, no podÃa ser solucionada por una cuestión de construcción (ni parcheada como se hizo con el Seat Exeo ya que unos asientos más finos no corresponden con la calidad que Lexus quiere ofrecer).
Para seguir el equipamiento, especialmente de seguridad, se habÃa quedado obsoleto, y por último las motorizaciones, aunque aprobaban con nota por suavidad y prestaciones, suspendÃan clamorosamente en emisiones, y para colmo, sin la seña de identidad de la marca, la hibridación.
Todas estas cuestiones parecen haber sido solucionadas en el nuevo modelo, que ahora es más grande, casi 8 centÃmetros, tiene un batalla mayor, lo que deberÃa redundar en más espacio para las plazas traseras, y por fin, cuenta con una mecánica hÃbrida (IS 300h), de una potencia por definir, pero que sabemos que será superior a los 200 CV, pero con unas emisiones que siempre estarÃan por debajo de los 100 gramos de dióxido de carbono, lo que hace que con toda seguridad cumpla con la normativa europea de contaminación Euro 6.
En cuanto al resto de mecánicas, el diesel desaparece, mientras que el IS 250 mantiene su denominación, ya que básicamente se trata del mismo V6 de 2.5 litros. Sobre este motor orientado para Estados Unidos, por el momento no tenemos más datos.
Otro aspecto que recibe un cambio radical es el interior. A diferencia de su hermano pequeño, el Lexus CT-200h, el IS 2013 juega sin complejos a parecerse al súperdeportivo LF-A. Desde luego el volante y el cuadro de mandos son muy parecidos. Por último, nos queda hablar del precio, que se espera que parta de los 37.000 euros.
A ver el coche necesitaba una renovación pero ya. El Exeo le pasó un poco lo mismo pero seat lo puso algo dÃa por lo menos. El tema es que en concesionario ahora fijo que te hacen descuentazo por la caja actual.
